     Fridge Brilliance
  • The film ends on an ambiguous note, with Ashley surviving and Luke trying to see if he can go to the hospital to see her, with the obvious intention of killing her; but if one actually thinks about it, there's a pretty good chance Luke won't get away with his crimes. We'll never actually know if Luke's mother agrees to take him to see Ashley at the hospital, and even if she said yes, there's no guarantee that they'd even be able to, given the police are now involved and will want to question him, get him counselling, etc; plus Ashley likely has the right to refuse visitors and obviously wouldn't want Luke anywhere near her. In the highly unlikely chance that Luke actually managed to get close to Ashley, there's no guarantee he'd be successful; as seen in the movie, his plans don't really go the way he expects them to and as we also see when he tries to kill Ricky, he screws it up and runs off like a coward. In that case, there's a chance he'd screw up trying to kill Ashley too. Another thing to note is that, given Ashley survived and made it to the hospital, it's fairly obvious to assume she'd report Luke's crimes to the authorities long before Luke might be able to reach her.
    • Besides, even if Luke miraculously manages to kill her and stage it like an accident, one of the surviving victims suddenly found dead after the supposed perpetrator hangs himself will make the other survivor extremely suspicious, especially since 90% of the possible scenario (if not 100%) the death will have happened after Luke's visit to the hospital. Coupled with abnormalities found during the investigation as mentioned down below, he's screwed.
  • The title of the movie becomes this. At first, it seems to be alluding to how the characters "better watch out" for the invaders. But at the end, it's Ashley telling Luke that he'd "better watch out" because she's going to tell the authorities everything.

     Fridge Horror
  • Even if Ashley survives and is able to report Luke's crimes to the police, there is a very real chance they won't believe her. The idea of a child with no known previous problematic behavior murdering several teenagers and covering up the evidence strains credulity, and it is quite possible her testimony will be written off as trauma-induced psychosis. She could go the rest of her life knowing that a psychopathic mass murderer who is obsessed with her is walking free. And if she were to kill him, even in self-defense, there is a good chance she would end up in prison for the rest of her life.
    • However, Luke's story won't hold up once the forensics guys start investigating. They're going to wonder why Jeremy doesn't have any gunshot residue on him (and why Luke does), why blood spatter patterns don't match up, why bodies have been moved, why some blood has been mopped up, why the supposed perpetrator's fingerprint on the evidence is very faint or oddly placed, plus it's unlikely Luke managed to remove every trace of his fingerprints, hair and skin tissue from the bodies and murder weapons. Did he even dispose of his clothes or take a shower?
    • Alternatively, even if she doesn't report it, Luke's behavior and true personality could become obvious to his parents eventually. After all, the object of his affection planned to move away and leave from his accessible reach. He might grow to be even more obsessive and also vindictive that she eluded his plan to kill her. Parental worries comes into play, as the parents might start keeping a closer watch over Luke due to the trauma of knowing that someone apparently broke into their house, murdered three people and wounded a fourth, and could have harmed him. Only for their seemingly protective measures to instead expose them to his utter lack of empathy and self-righteousness. And for that, Luke might decide he doesn't need his parents anymore...
  • If Luke does get caught, as a young (white) teenager, Luke is likely to be tried as a minor, which means that he will have a lighter sentence, and will likely be released with his record expunged when he becomes an adult, especially if his defense manages to argue that he was acting in a diminished frame of mind (his "home invasion" prank went wrong, he panicked and tried to hit an attacking Ricky, leading to him defending his life as Ricky and Ashley turned on him, Garrett was accidentally shot, etc. Knowing no one would believe the actual story, he concocted the story he told the police...) So it's likely that he will be free once more in a few years.
