He's smelling all the viewers at once!
One of Tutter's catchphrases is "Oh, hickory dickory!". This has a double meaning; it could refer to hickory cheese, or a Nursery Rhyme: "hickory dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock".
Several pictures and flashbacks show that Treelo has been at the Big Blue House since he was a baby. While baby Treelo is absolutely adorable, this comes with the implication that he's an orphan, particularly since Bear has seemingly adopted him.
