Fridge Brilliance

  • John A. Pence's name. The John A. part could be a reference to John Amery, a British fascist who supported Nazi Germany and proposed forming a British volunteer force for the Wehrmacht, or possibly, if we only take his first name, John Warburton, another British fascist who was in Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists. As for his last name? Possibly a reference to Mike Pence, Donald Trump's vice president, who has been accused of being a Christian fascist. But the kicker? His middle name- it's Athalwolf, an Anglicized form of Adolf.
  • Edwin Morrell's name. It's merely an alteration of that of Irwin Rommel, also known as the Desert Fox, who betrayed the Nazis in the end. This may imply that Morrell will see the light in the end and turn to join with the protagonists.
  • Why does John A. Pence hate monsters? Because his older stepsister, Chara, fell into the Underground and was, he assumed, killed by the monsters there, who then brought her body back to the surface just to mock her family.

Fridge Horror

  • After barely avoiding assassination at Caleb's hands, John A. Pence notes that, as soon as he takes office, he needs to begin an aggressive propaganda campaign against monsters. What's the logical extension of this, considering that the author has already confirmed the Patriot party to be a bunch of Nazi expies? That's right... a Final Solution to monsterkind.
  • Caleb's assassination attempt, although set up as a Xanatos Gambit, is actually just the opposite. With the reveal that the Anomaly was controlling Pence to do everything that he did, Caleb couldn't win either way. If he had succeeded, the Anomaly would have just moved on and taken control of Edwin Morrell, and since he failed, his death was in vain.
  • The Anomaly notes that the new President, Alvar O'Brien, needed no coaxing to begin genocide against monsters. Just how deep is this man's depravity?
  • Asriel's destruction of half of North America would have far wider consequences than what's already happened. The sheer amount of energy contained in that explosion would be enough to kick up enough dust to severely block out the rays of the sun. This would lower the global temperature drastically and lead to most plants dying. Which would cause a mass extinction event. Yes, people, Asriel's little explosion would be the equivalent of the asteroid that killed the dinos. Every single human would likely die. How's that for Fridge horror?
  • The fact that the anomaly is running around controlling Pence.
