Fridge Brilliance
- Besides Sunset being the one who saved her from her demonic self, it makes sense why Sci-Twi would be the closest to her out of all of their friends. Both of them are orphans, prodigies academically, using science to investigate how Equestrian magic works in the human world, and were forcibly turned into demons that an outside force managed to bring down before they killed anyone and they were reformed through being befriended (even though Sunset had to work harder at being forgiven since she was pretty much a bully before the Fall Formal caused her to wake up to what she was doing; since Sci-Twi wasn't ever much of a villian in the first place and was backmailed into working for Cinch, she was forgiven by CHS a lot sooner). It's no wonder why Sunset is Sci-Twi's biggest emotional crutch.
- Also, victims of tramatic experiences often recover the best through support groups and listening to others' stories in them. Sunset and Sci-Twi have basically started their own support group (since not many are forcibily turned into demons), and it's clear that they can trust each other extremely well. And it ties in nicely with the entire theme of the franchise.
- Sci-Twi's parents being killed by a Drunk Driver would give her a lot more reason for being so withdrawn in the movie, especially since the canon versions of her parents haven't appeared or were even mentioned at all yet.
- Going a step further, her relationship with Dean Cadence. Dean Cadence's job is centered around the students' well-being, and being one of Sci-Twi's legal guardians allows her more involvement in Sci-Twi's life. This is why she spends more time with Sci-Twi than any other adult (barring Cinch) in the film. As a bonus, it would add to why she let Sci-Twi have Spike at school. She knows Sci-Twi well enough that she knows Spike isn't part of a project, and Spike provides her the comfort and friendship she needs in the school when Dean Cadence is not around.
- Why would Princess Twilight take being forced to retgone the original Starlight really hard? Because she never had to make such a difficult decision before since she never actually killed any of the villains she faced. Nightmare Moon was purified by the Elements of Harmony and that freed Luna; Discord was turned back to stone after his defeat and then became mostly reformed later; Twilight played a huge role in the downfalls of Queen Chrysalis and King Sombra, but it was ultimately Shining Armor and Cadance (and also Spike in the case of Sombra) that landed the final blow; Tirek was locked back in Tartarus and more than deserved it for his crimes. Not being able to talk down Starlight was a huge blow on Twilight, due to the fact that this pony not only rejected what the alicorn represented, but didn't care what was going to happen to Equestria as long as she got revenge on the Mane Six. And Twilight didn't have anybody else to rely on in that scenario. So Twilight took the next option she saw that was possible, and she's fully aware that it might've not been the best course of action, despite it being the only choice she had to save Equestria.
- Filly Starlight used to be a neglected orphan whose former abusive caretakers were brought to legal justice thanks to Princess Twilight. Ergo, it makes sense why she would be massively upset about Twilight being unable to do anything more to help Diamond Tiara other than to place her emotionally abusive mother underneath the watch of Foal Protection Services.
- Actually, when you think about it, the original Starlight's Freudian Excuse is given a lot more bulk here than in canon; growing up in an extremely neglectful orphanage, it's likely that Sunburst was the only one who ever actually showed her affection. After he left and died, Starlight still continued to live there until she either ran away or got old enough to legally support herself. Since none of the caretakers showed any sympathy for her, it's implied that she never learned how to make any meaningful relationships because no adult could help her and she was scared of anyone else leaving her.
Fridge Horror
- If Twilight retgoning the original Starlight affected Sunburst's fate in the new timeline, who's to say that something bad didn't happen to Party Favor, Sugar Belle, Nightglider, and Double Diamond because they never came together? And what about all the other ponies who lived in that village? What became of them in this timeline, where the village never existed?
- Turns out Twilight is fully aware of this, and because she may never know the full consequences of her actions, is haunted by it.
- Word of God has stated that Sunburst died in the original timeline, too, but Twilight can't know that for sure, either.
- If Sunburst is dead in this timeline, what's going to happen during this timeline's equivalent to "The Crystalling", where his presence was what stopped the Crystal Empire from being destroyed by blizzard?
- The fourth pony chapter of Integration shows that the aforementioned four are alive and well. However, it still remains to be seen if the friendships made in the original timeline could be made here as well.
- On this front, there is good news and there is bad news. The good news is Sunburst didn't actually die. The bad news? He's in the hands of the Changeling Mafia! You may now continue freaking out.
- Considering how the Changelings in the pony world are love sucking, shiftshaping vampires, if/when the human mob gets their hands on magic, it's not going to be good.
- And what's worse is that they are implied to have been stalking Sunset and the other girls in their studies of magic. This means that even if the Rainbooms' parents have their children go to Equestria to be kept safe from Terra's changelings, they may end up just giving away the existence of this whole other world, allowing them to gain full access to Equestrian magic.
- Considering the fate of Pony Cinch, and how nobody, not even her daughter, cared about what happened, the Human Cinch is probably going to be in a similar position now that she's working for villains that specialize in fake identities.
- Also, who did assassinate the Pony Cinch?
- And if Cinch gets her hands on magic, just what will it do to a cold-hearted person like herself?
- Turn her into yet another raging she-demon bent on getting revenge on those who ruined her reputation, perhaps?
- The Changelings are said to have broken Aria Blaze and Sonata Dusk through their experiments. If and when they are given help, it might take months or even years of therapy just to help them recover.
- Alternatively, they could be in the same position as Sci-Twi and cannot relate their experiences to any therapist because no one will believe them if they tell stories about possessing magic. In turn, the best course of action would be to become friends with their former enemies, the Rainbooms, and Princess Twilight, who could help them by finding a therapist for them back in Equestria. Even then, it's still going to take them a while to recover, as Sci-Twi has shown.
- What happened to the Twilight and Spike from the new timeline? It's clear the Mane Six met and interacted largely the same, so when (original) Twilight and Spike return from the past, shouldn't that leave two Twilights and Spikes? This is under Horror as opposed to Fridge Logic for the first possibility that comes to mind, best known as the Time Bastard
Theory.
