Reid and Angelica turn to banditry after being left by themselves due to their actions instead of simply asking the merchants for help is somewhat questionable. Until you realize that as the "hero" party, this would be them (especially Reid) admitting to the fact they screwed up. Essentially, Reid's desire for ideals and perfection caused him to turn to the solution of silencing them instead of getting help.
