Tropes for the film:
- Alliterative Name: Frankie Flynn.
- As Themselves: Doctor Dré note and Ed Lover.
- The Cameo: Various rappers and celebrities like B-Real, Apache, Bill Bellamy, among others make appearances in the movie.
- Donut Mess with a Cop: Sgt. Cooper (Leary) attempts to stop Dré from ever eating a donut again, all because he calls himself "Doctor". He proceeds to taunt Dré by letting his partner Ed have all the donuts he wants.
- Scantron Picture: Dré and Ed attempt to deliberately fail the police exam by filling out the bubbles to spell out "abacadaba". It's never made clear whether they actually pass the test or if someone pulls strings behind-the-scenes to "adjust" their score.
- Tagline: "The first hip-hop whodunnit!".
