Under Wraps is a 2021 Made-for-TV Movie that is a remake of the 1997 film of the same name. This is the first Disney Channel Original Movie that is a remake of a previous DCOM, appropriately being a remake of the first DCOM ever made.
Three friends, three days shortly before Halloween, discover that a mummy is buried deep in one of their backyards. When they use an amulet to revive him, the mummy breaks loose and becomes lost in the modern world. Now these friends must catch and return the mummy where he was once buried before midnight on Halloween, or else he will roam the world forever and potentially be kidnapped by criminals with bad intentions.
The film premiered on October 1, 2021, on Disney Channel, which was followed up by the premiere of The Ghost and Molly McGee. It was followed up by a sequel, titled Under Wraps 2, released in 2022.
Under Wraps (2021) contains examples of:
- Mythology Gag: The movie the friends are watching in the opening is called Warthead V, a reference to the film the friends watched in the original film called Warthead IV.
- Prophecies Rhyme All the Time: The instructions on how to reverse the curse on the amulet rhyme, despite the message originally being in Egyptian hieroglyphics and the rhyming message being translated into English.
- Sticky Situation: Harold is stuck in one involving honey, causing him to stick to a remote and then the ceiling.
- When the Clock Strikes Twelve: Harold must be back in his sarcophagus by the stroke of midnight on Halloween, otherwise he will turn to dust and cease to exist for good.
