Ultraman vs. Kamen Rider is a TV special retrospective of tokusatsu franchises Ultra Series and Kamen Rider. Though mostly a documentary, it also hosted an original short film "Super Battle: Ultraman vs Kamen Rider", which sees the original Ultraman and Kamen Rider 1 fighting together.

Tropes:

  • Ass-Kicking Pose: Kamen Rider performs Ultraman's iconic pose.
  • Behemoth Battle: Ultraman vs. Gadoras, then Ultraman & Kamen Rider vs. Scorpion Gadoras.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Seeing Scorpion Gadoras overwhelm Ultraman, Kamen Rider rams into the beast on his motorcycle before growing to match him.
  • Combination Attack: Scorpion Gadoras is defeated once Kamen Rider lands a Rider Kick on his head while Ultraman launches a Spacium Ray into his chest.
  • Cool Bike: The end credits sequence sees Ultraman riding a giant version of Kamen Rider's New Cyclone with the logo of the Tachibana Racing Club (TRC) swapped for that of the the Science Special Search Party (SSSP).
  • Crossover Combo Villain: Scorpion Gadoras is the combination of a Shocker cyborg monster with an Ultraman kaiju.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: A tokusatsu staple which, as ever, ultimately befalls Scorpion Gadoras.
  • Expy: Poison Scorpion Man is essentially a new version of the original Scorpion Mannote , the Monster of the Week in the third ever episode of Kamen Rider.
  • Finishing Move: Scoprion Gadoras is only defeated after sustaining both heroes' iconic finishers, that is Ultraman's Spacium Ray and Kamen Rider's Rider Kick.
  • Fusion Dance: Poison Scorpion Man and Gadoras combine to form Scorpionnote  Gadoras.
  • Intercontinuity Crossover: The first and, to date, only on-screen crossover between Ultraman and Kamen Rider.
  • Kaiju: Gadoras is an original kaiju pitted against Ultraman. He then combines with Shocker kaijin Poison Scorpion Man to become Scorpion Gadoras.
  • Make My Monster Grow: A heroic example as Kamen Rider grows to match Ultraman in size. He even mimics Ultraman's transformation pose as he does so.
  • Monster of the Week: Pitted against Kamen Rider and Ultraman are Shocker's Poison Scorpion Mannote  and kaiju Gadoras respectively.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: For the first and only time, the original Kamen Rider grows to match Ultraman in size. Notably, this preceeds Kamen Rider J, who would be distinguished in later crossovers for having this ability.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: Two monsters show up, two superheroes beat them, the end. The short is essentially a glorified stage show, not unlike Kamen Rider World/Super Sentai World/Toei Hero Daishugo.
  • No-Sell: Unlike most Shocker monsters, Poison Scorpion Man survives the Rider Kick long enough to combine with Gadoras.
  • Power Creep, Power Seep: Kamen Rider spontaneously gains the ability to grow so he can stand against a giant kaiju as an equal to Ultraman.
