Tropes for the film:

  • Action Girl: Rachel, in the garden shootout, while also sporting Cool Shades.
  • Cool Shades: Both Mark and Rachel wear them in certain action scenes.
  • Cowboy Cop: Mark, hands down.
  • Every Car Is a Pinto: Like other films directed by the Pepin and Merhi duo, the two car chases feature them, with the final one involving a tanker truck.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: Happens when Mark's mother gets shot by the killers, as the viewers can see her blood splashing onto the television set.
  • Guns Akimbo: Happens in the garden shootout, where Mark has a pair of Glock pistols.
  • Instant Convertible: In the final car chase, this happens when Mark's Ford Crown Victoria that he's driving goes underneath the trailer of a gasoline tanker, and prompting an obvious "convertible" remark from him afterward.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Two of them by the main hero Mark Goddard, one of which happens when he's about to give Benny a pseudo Disney Villain Death with a rope:
Mark: What's the matter, tough guy? Are you afraid of heights? What did they call that, Vertigo?
    And before he burns Richman:
Mark: I'm Mark Goddard, and I have a little message for you: did I come in at a bad time?
  • Staged Shooting: The final part of the prologue has one of the men who barged into his parents' house trying to kill Mark, but surprisingly, for a young kid, that gunshot makes him end up hospitalized for the next couple years.
