Tropes for the film:

  • Bar Brawl: The plot culminates in an epic one. Balconies are fallen over, valuable pots are smashed, chairs and bottles are used as weapons, men are thrown over the bar, tables are flipped, and every sheet of glass in the place is smashed. It finishes with Glennister and McNamara going out the window and finishing the fight in the mud. They also end up losing their shirts.
  • Cabin Fever: Lampshaded. Glennister and his friend note that when two men spend a winter frozen in a cabin in Alaska, they either walk out good friends... "or one man walks out alone."
  • The Film of the Book: The story is based on Rex Beach's book of the same name.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Roy Glennister shows up Just in Time to stop McNamara from forcing himself on the Damsel in Distress. McNamara points out that he doesn't have his gun on him, so Roy says they'll have to settle matters the good old fashioned way, and have a truly epic fistfight ensues.
  • Population: X, and Counting: Played with A prospector in a gold rush town is told that a hotel doesn't have any vacancies. Suddenly there's a gunshot from inside the hotel and a body rolls down the stairs. The hotel owner promptly sells the now-vacant room.
