The Pool is a Thai survival thriller directed by Ping Lumpraploeng.
The plot involves a man who goes for a swim. However, a worker drains the pool unaware of a man who is still in the pool and that the pool has no ladders. The man has several unsuccessful attempts to escape the pool. To make things worse, a crocodile enters the pool.
The Pool provides examples of the following tropes:
- Disney Death: At the end of the movie, after rescuing his boyfriend from the drain, she seems dead until she suddenly wakes up.
- From Bad to Worse: After the man is stuck alone in the pool, his girlfriend unwittingly jumps into the pool meaning he has to protect her. And, finally a crocodile falls in, leading to the danger that the crocodile will eat them.
- Just Eat Gilligan: If the man had got out of the pool when he realized the pool was being drained, this entire ordeal could have been avoided.
- Never Smile at a Crocodile: A crocodile enters the pool and is a major threat throughout most of the movie.
- Trapped-with-Monster Plot: The main character and his girlfriend are trapped in the pool while a crocodile is trying to hunt them.
