The Other Side of Hope (original title: Toivon tuolla puolen) is a 2017 film by Aki Kaurismäki. The director himself announced that it would be his last work.
Tropes:
- Despair Event Horizon: Khaled crosses it when most of his family members were killed in a bombing of his house.
- The Magic Poker Equation : For both Wikström and his rival in the last game. Straight flush for the hero, four of a kind for his rival.
- No Ending: It is not known whether the wound of Khaled is treated properly, and he'll recover, as well as whether the sister of Khaled will be allowed to stay in Finland.
- Rag Tag Bunch Of Misfits: Suddenly appear out of nowhere and defend Khaled when three goons attack him the second time.
- Rule of Three: Khaled is thrice attacked by goons. First two times three gangsters attack him. Third time it's only the meanest of them.
