Tropes for the film:

  • Dead Person Impersonation: Barry Morland has been impersonating Howard since Howard's death in a scheme to inherit Howard's wealth.
  • Creepy Doll: The mannequins from the wedding scene.
  • Fantasy Keepsake: Irene finds the wedding ring she put on in her dream, thus proving that it wasn't just a dream. Actually it's part of a plan to use Gaslighting her.
  • Gaslighting: Irene gets it from every direction.
  • In the Back: Joyce is stabbed in the back by "Howard".
  • Latex Perfection: Barry as the scarred and blind Howard.
  • Noun Verber: The Night Walker.
  • Sleep Paralysis Creature: The movie has a posture showing a satyr-like creature squatting on Stanwyck's chest as she sleeps. No such creature appears in the movie itself, but the image is clearly meant to be metaphorical for Irene being unable to tell where her strange dreams stop and her stranger reality begins. Sleep paralysis, however, is not a theme of the movie.
  • Tagline: "Will It Dare You To Dream of Things You're Ashamed to Admit!".
