Two good cops. One bad situation.

The Glimmer Man is a 1996 Buddy Cop action-comedy film, directed by John Gray and starring Steven Seagal and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

Focusing on no-nonsense detective Jack Cole, whose stint is nicknamed “The Glimmer Man”, he has to team up with fellow detective Jim Campbell to uncover a string of recent murders committed by “The Family Man”.

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Subverted by the original Family Man aka Christopher Maynard, who feels guilt over his crimes to the point where he willingly commits suicide by cop to forgive himself of his sins.
  • Big Bad: The Family Man, or more specifically Donald Cunningham.
  • Family Extermination: Both the original and copycat Family Man regularly kill innocent families while they rest and crucify them as well.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Cunningham winds up being thrown out of the window by Cole during the climax and having his jaw land hard on a metal fence.
  • Jack the Ripoff: Cunningham covers his boss, Frank Deverell’s tracks by posing as The Family Man and targeting innocent families just like the original.
  • Sadist: Cunningham relishes in taunting Cole about the death of his ex-wife Ellen.
