The Bloody Man is a Family Horror Movie by Daniel Benedict.

Sam Harris (David Daniel) is a kid living in The '80s who's family is going through a rough patch due to his mother dying in a car crash. Their dad (Jeremy Carr) recently married their step-mom Kim (Tuesday Knight), whom he and his older brother Michael (Sam Hadden) and his younger sister Amy (Olivia Sanders) still haven't warmed up to.

For his end-of-the-school-year report, Sam has decided to make it about The Bloody Man, a monster from Sam's comic book from his mother. That night, after accidentally messing up family game night, Sam goes into his room and reads an incantation off the back of the comic... which ends up bringing The Bloody Man (Nicholas Redd) into their home.

On the night Mr. Harris leaves for a business trip to L.A., The Bloody Man decides that moment is the perfect time to attack.

The movie was funded on Kickstarter on November 1st, 2017. The movie was released on August 20th, 2020 (to Kickstarter backers).

The Bloody Man contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: In the Bloody Man story Sam reads in his comic, a man named Charles accidentally kills his wife by shoving her against the wall.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Michael severs The Bloody Man's arm by slamming his bedroom door on it.
  • Antagonist Title: The Bloody Man, of course.
  • Bald of Evil: The Bloody Man has no hair, and is a sadistic being who enjoys tearing families apart.
  • Batter Up!: Michael tries to kill The Bloody Man's severed arm, he tries crushing it with a bat. It becomes his primary weapon when the kids suit up to go after The Bloody Man.
  • Big Brother Bully: Michael is not the most respectful older sibling to Sam and Amy. He drops this attitude when he realizes there really IS a Bloody Man, though.
  • Blood from the Mouth: In the story Sam reads in the comic about Charles, when Charles shoves his wife against the wall, blood comes from her mouth upon impact, showing he accidentally killed her.
  • Bloody Handprint: Sam finds one on his door. Michael thinks he put it there when he sees it.
  • Bound and Gagged: The kids find the real Kim tied to a chair and gagged late in the movie.
  • The Bully: Perry establishes himself as this early in the movie, with Sam being his favourite target. We find out in the end his family is even more dysfunctional than Sam's was. Unfortunately, this catches the interest of The Bloody Man.
  • Captain Ersatz: Sam's favourite toy character, Barbarian Man, is very clearly He-Man.
  • Disney Villain Death: A non-villainous example, as Charles' hostage is killed when he drops her from the second floor of the barn.
  • Dream Sequence: After reading the incantation on the back of the comic, Sam has a dream about the last time he was with his mother, which starts out very pleasant.
  • Enter Stage Window: When Michael returns home in one scene, he climbs in through Sam's window (after scaring him into opening it up).
  • Flipping the Bird: The Bloody Man's severed arm does this in Michael's room.
  • The Greys: In Amy's story, when The Bloody Man is about to kill a boy, aliens who look like these show up to arrest him.
  • Handguns: In Amy's story, The Bloody Man uses a handgun to shoot a baby in its crib.
  • Happier Home Movie: Amy watches one belonging to Sam. It's of when the family was at a picnic, and their mom was still alive. The family has another one after defeating The Bloody Man, with Kim, Stacy, and Sam's friend.
  • Hostage Situation: In another part of Sam's Bloody Man story, after Charles' wife is killed, he's seen in a barn holding a woman by the neck on the second floor.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Sam runs The Bloody Man through with his sword.
  • In the Hood: In Sam's Dream Sequence, a man in a brown hoodie approaches Amy, offering her a Nickle. If nothing else, it can help him look unsettling. Later in the movie, The Bloody Man offers Amy a Nickle, hinting that he was that man.
  • Missing Mom: The mother of the family died in a car accident before the movie started. Michael states it's because she was on her way to an event of Sam's. Sam says it's because she had to deal with Michael skipping school.
  • Naughty Birdwatching: Michael is seen at one point in his room, using his binoculars to watch a woman next door undress.
  • Off with His Head!: Sam defeats The Bloody Man by slicing his head off.
  • Organ Autonomy: The Bloody Man's severed arm is still able to move around on its own after Michael severs it with his bedroom door.
  • Ouija Board: In Michael's Bloody Man story, a bunch of teenagers bring one of these out to hold a seance.
  • Shout-Out: Plenty.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Well, The Bloody Man DOES spend his time on screen trying to murder three kids.
