The Beach Girls And The Monster is a horror/beach party film from from 1965.
Richard Lindsay has given up on his Oceanography ambitions to pursue surfing, much to the displeasure of his father, noted Oceanographer Otto Lindsay. Meanwhile, surfers in Richards friend group are being terrorized by a mutated South American Fantigua Fish.
This Film Provides Examples Of The Following Tropes:
- Asshole Victim: Vicky is the third victim of the monster.
- Big Bad: The mutated creature killing everyone. It’s really Dr. Otto Lindsay.
- Fish People: The titular Monster is a seaweed covered, bipedal fish.
- Jerkass: Vicky. Among other things, she hits on and teases Richard, insults his friend Mark for his disability, cheats on her husband, and is disappointed that she missed the murder of the first girl.
- Mistaken for Murderer: Mark is eventually blamed for one of the creatures kills.
- Monster Misogyny: Averted. Of the monsters four victims, only two are female.
- Police Are Useless: Zigzagged. While the police utterly fail to stop the monster until it’s too late, they are pretty competent during the final chase, and the sheriff correctly guesses that the monster is just a guy in a costume.
- "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: The Monster is really Dr. Otto Lindsay in disguise, so he can murder surfers without being caught.
