Tamahine is a 1963 British comedy film directed by Philip Leacock.

Tamahine (Nancy Kwan) is a Polynesian girl with a British father. After his death and according to his wishes, Tamahine is sent to England to be educated in British customs. Her guardian is her father's cousin, Charles Poole (Dennis Price), the staid headmaster of Hallow, a boys' school. Tamahine's free-spirited and questioning nature brings chaos to the stuffy halls of Hallow and much of the student body becomes enamored of her, including art teacher Tim Clove (Derek Nimmo) and Charles' son Richard (John Fraser).

Tropes:

  • Cannibal Tribe: At the dinner table of her welcome party, Tamahine cheerfully talks about her tribe engaging in cannibalism (although she makes it clear that the last time it happened was in her grandfather's time), making all the guests very uncomfortable.
  • Child of Two Worlds: Tamahine has a British father and Polynesian mother, and spent her childhood in the latter's culture. Then in her early adulthood, she is brought to England and struggles to understand its customs.
  • Culture Clash: Tamahine's Polynesian upbringing, which is apparently very focused on sexual openness and having fun, clashes with the stuffy and repressed British culture she is brought into.
  • Death by Childbirth: Tamahine mentions that her mother died as she gave birth to her.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Tamahine has few compunctions about wearing little or nothing at all in front of people, and wonders out loud why the British make such a big deal of it and tell her to cover herself up.
  • Kissing Cousins: Tamahine is initially aghast about Richard's interest in her since they're cousins and that's taboo in her culture. Richard convinces her it's fine because they're once removed and that since she is part British she should ascribe to British taboos and follow the Bible, which doesn't say anything against cousins once removed.
