T. Rex Autopsy is a 2015 speculative documentary airing on the National Geographic Channel. It follows a team of scientists as they dissect a deceased T. rex and try to determine its cause of death, studying its biology along the way.

Includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Breakable Weapons: At one point, the team discuss how the T. rex teeth, as tough as they are. Could break just like any other bone. Though the Rex has an advantage, in that it grows new teeth all throughout its life.
  • Eye Scream: Though the animal is already dead. The team eventually remove one of the eyes of the T. rex to more closely examine it.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: The team are eventually able to determine what the T. rex died from. She most likely died from a nasty fall that broke her back.
  • Feathered Fiend: While they are small, the T. rex is actually shown to have some small feathers.
  • Gorn: Nothing too ridiculous, but there is a lot of blood.
  • Mama Bear: The Rex is eventually revealed to be a female, who was getting ready to lay eggs.
  • Raptor Attack: Some dromaeosaurs appear in a few segments.
  • Real Is Brown: Averted, sort of. the T. rex is shown to be mostly green in color.
  • Riddle for the Ages: How was the T. rex found in the first place? There's no attempt to explain it beyond it was the government that found it.
  • Shown Their Work: Very much so. Among other things, the T. rex has simple feathers.
    • The fact that the Rex regrow teeth all throughout its lifetime. Some modern animals, such as crocodiles and sharks regrow teeth in much the same way.
