Storm Warning is an Australian Hillbilly Horrors home invasion slasher released in 2007. Directed by Jamie Blanks, famous for his work on Urban Legend and Valentine, the film centers around married couple Pia (Nadia Fares) and Rob (Robert Taylor), who get lost during a storm while sailing and find themselves docked at a marsh seeking help back. There, they encounter the house of Jimmy (David Lyons) and Brett (Matthew Wilkinson), two deranged redneck brothers, and their father Poppy (John Brumpton). When the family catches the couple in their home, needless to say, they aren't pleased with being intruded, and proceed to torment them until it escalates to the point that they'll do anything to escape, even if it means bloodshed…
Despite being released in 2007, the script was written over a decade prior in the early 90s, but writer Everett De Roche claimed that it took so long to get made because his agent deemed it too graphic for audiences at the time. It was released on DVD as part of the Dimension Extreme line in 2008.
Storm Warning contains examples of the following tropes:
- Darker and Edgier: The film is significantly bleaker than Jamie Blanks' previous two directed works, with the antagonists being far more sadistic, the tone being darker, and the gore reaching near Torture Porn levels in the last act.
- Gorn: Quite a literal example, too, as the film is not only extremely violent, but the antagonists are not opposed to showing sexual deviance either.
- Minimalist Cast: Only five major characters appear in the film: Rob, Pia, and the three murderous hillbillies. In fact, aside from the two boaters seen on the dock for a second and the family's previous victim, there aren't even any extras or background characters.
