Stolen from Suburbia (also known as Stolen from the Suburbs) is a 2015 Lifetime Made-for-TV Movie Thriller written and directed by Alex Wright.

Katherine Hudson (Cynthia Watros) is a single mother who just recently moved to Southern California with her 16-year-old daughter Emma (Sydney Sweeney). When Emma disappears, evidence points to her having been abducted into a sex trafficking ring. With the help of Anna (Brooke Nevin), a caseworker for a group that rescues sex trafficking victims, Katherine goes looking for Emma.

It's currently available for streaming on Tubi.

The film provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: Katherine, who's a middle-aged woman, successfully tangles with several of Milena's henchmen, pursuing and pinning down Adam, then knocking out Mike.
  • Asthma Peril: Adam, Emma's would-be boyfriend who actually works for the traffickers, has asthma, and at one point Katherine chases him and withholds his inhaler from him to get him to talk.
  • Badass in Distress: With Anna's help, white collar single mom Katherine manages to break into the sex trafficking rings, frees Courtney, and seems poised to rescue Emma, but Mike captures and torments her. But this ultimately doesn't stop her, as she uses some Distracted by the Sexy tactics to steal his gun.
  • Beauty Is Bad: Milena is a beautiful woman portrayed by Olivia d'Abo who is the leader of a sex trafficking ring.
  • Big "NO!": Katherine says this when Mike pulls her close to him and tries to rape her.
  • Bland-Name Product: Emma eats a cereal called Sugar Rice Pops in her first scene.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: Emma gets into a fight with Katherine over a boy she wants to see.
Emma: (pouty) I'm 16 and I should be allowed to date!
  • Break the Cutie: Emma, a typical teen girl, frequently breaks down in tears as she finds herself subjected to sexual exploitation and cruelty once she's in the clutches of the traffickers.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': When Katherine tries to take down the "Missing" poster for Piper, Anna happens to be driving by. She stops and chastises Katherine for it.
  • Chekhov's Armoury: Emma's locket, the business card Anna gives to Katherine, and Adam having asthma all become important to the story later on.
  • Covert Group with Mundane Front: The traffickers wear uniforms that say "Moving & Storage", and also pose as proprietors of a homeless shelter for teens.
  • Damsel in Distress: Emma serves as this since she has to be rescued by her Mom.
  • Dirty Cop: It's established that the traffickers have a mole in the police force, but the character isn't identified though the strong implication is that it's either Det. Richmond or Cordova, who just happen to be the detectives Katherine is working with.
  • Disappeared Dad: Katherine's husband died before the movie. Emma has a necklace with a locket containing his picture.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Katherine thwarts the Attempted Rape by Mike by pretending to go along with it willingly, inviting him to kiss and make out with her, and he falls for it perfectly, allowing her to steal his gun.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: While she wears her usual attire, Katherine pretends to be a potential buyer in order to get into a human trafficking ring.
  • Evil Gloating: Milena gives several speeches congratulating herself on her cleverness and ruthlessness.
  • Fan Disservice: One disturbing key scene has the girls all paraded out in front of their captors in bras and panties, handcuffed to one another.
  • Helicopter Parents: Emma uses this trope by name in accusing Katherine of being a Control Freak.
  • Human Traffickers: Emma and her friend Courtney find themselves taken hostage by a group of these.
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: After Milena tells Mike to "do whatever you want" to Katherine as long as he keeps her alive, he gropes Katherine and chooses to have a decidedly nonconsensual "quickie" with her, telling her "You might even enjoy this." Katherine realizes she can exploit the situation to make an escape before anything can happen.
  • Kiss of Distraction: To thwart Mike as he attempts to rape her, Katherine pretends like she's willing to go along with it, begging him to "kiss me first". As they make out, she steals his gun and points it to his head.
    Katherine: Get off me!
  • Last Words: The dying words of Adam after Johnny shoots him identify Milena by name and give Katherine and Anna a solid clue in Emma's whereabouts.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Katherine hatches a plan to pay for a session with Courtney, effectively forcing her to pose as this.
    Mike: This is private property!
    Katherine: I have a date.
    Mike: With the boy?
    Katherine: I don't like boys.
  • Mama Bear: Unsurprisingly, since it's a Lifetime movie, Katherine counts. Rather than passively wait for Emma to be rescued, she actively tries to infiltrate the syndicate, even going the highly dangerous route of posing as a potential buyer for Emma's friend Courtney.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Katherine is an attractive woman who receives a lot of Male Gaze-focused shots throughout the film as a result of wearing flattering outfits that show off her nice body. She even has a steamy make out session with Mike.
  • Nature Adores a Virgin: Milena asks the virgins among her captives to identify themselves, since their customers are willing to pay more for them. Emma is one of them.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: A minor case, but the trailer shows Katherine and Anna handing out fliers with Emma's picture that clearly show her name as Emma Frey, but in the movie itself she's named Emma Hudson, and the fliers reflect that.
  • Oh, Crap!: Emma's expression when she regains consciousness and realizes that she's been kidnapped, and Courtney has as well.
  • Organ Theft: It's established that The Syndicate also engages in this alongside sex trafficking, and they plan to subject Katherine to it after they capture her.
  • Pervy Patdown: Mike seems to enjoy it a bit too much when he frisks Katherine to see if she has any phones or weapons, paying special attention to the area around her jeans' back pockets.
  • Police Are Useless: As expected with a Lifetime movie. A major theme of the story is that the police don't take sex trafficking seriously, underlined by how the detectives are dismissive of Katherine all throughout the investigation. Anna also spends lots of time bemoaning this.
  • Put Down Your Gun and Step Away: Milena holds Emma hostage and tells this to Katherine so that she won't kill her.
  • Rape as Backstory:
    • An important scene has Anna reveal that she was once enslaved in a sex trafficking ring, subjected to numerous rapes, and that she eventually killed one of the johns, and her work is a way to save others in the same predicament.
    • However, Milena also reveals that this was the case for her, but she decided to go along with it and rose to become a powerful boss in the organization.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Adam gets killed by Johnny after he tells Katherine information about Emma's whereabouts.
  • Sex Slave: Emma gets kidnapped for the purpose of being sold into a sex trafficking ring. Anna draws a distinction between this and prostitution, noting that prostitutes voluntarily work in the sex trade.
  • Slipping a Mickey: Adam drugs Emma's drink, then abducts her once she becomes incapacitated.
  • Stepford Suburbia: The title (in both of its forms) evokes this, and the movie itself does as well, since The Syndicate is shown to place a premium on well-adjusted girls from the suburbs, who their customers find more appealing than drug addicts or runaways.
  • Strapped to an Operating Table: This is what happens to Katherine after she gets captured by Mike.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: It's Courtney who introduces Emma to Adam and Johnny, the slightly older guys who end up kidnapping them.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The film's trailer presents that Katherine in successful at rescuing her daughter.
  • Trouser Space: Both male and female cases, with Mike tucking his gun inside the back waistband of his pants, and Katherine hiding her phone inside the crotch area of her's.
  • The Syndicate: The trafficking network is referred to by this exact name.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Katherine granting Emma permission to start dating leads to Emma and Courtney getting abducted and ultimately the deaths of Adam and Milena.
  • Very Special Episode: The movie tries to have this tone, complete with phone numbers for trafficking victims to call at the end, but it has enough titillating elements that it leans a little more toward the Exploitation Film side of things.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?:
    • Piper's boyfriend and that developer guy Katherine talks to don't appear outside of their single scene, note  while Piper only appears in the opening and later talking to Emma in the traffickers' cage.
    • It is never revealed what happened to Courtney after Katherine gets knocked out and captured by Mike.
