Shock Wave is a 2017 action film directed by Herman Yau and starring Andy Lau. The film features Lau as Cheung, a bomb disposal expert who acts as a police mole against Blast, an evil terrorist. Cheung manages to apprehend Blast's brother, and one year later Blast comes back for revenge.

Has nothing to do with the mid-1990s games of the same name.

The film is followed by a sequel in 2020, known as Shockwave 2. However, it still stars Andy Lau as a different character caught up in a different scenario.

Shock Wave provides examples of:

  • Cop Killer: Blast and his evil, Ax-Crazy henchmen.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Blast carried out the terrorist attack on the Cross Harbour Tunnel in part for the sake of taking back his brother.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Cheung performs the ultimate one in the end, as he tells his co-worker if he cuts the yellow one and the bomb explodes, the coworker will cut the red one on the bomb at the other end of the tunnel. Cheung ends up cutting the yellow one, killing himself but saving hundreds.
  • Hostage Situation: Blast traps hundreds of people on their way home from work in Hong Kong's busy Cross Harbour Tunnel.
  • The Mole: Cheung was a heroic example of this, working undercover to bring down Blast. Sadly this doesn't turn out well.
  • Wire Dilemma: During the climax, Ben and Cheung each have to disarm a truck bomb by cutting one of the two wires on the detonators. Only by cutting the red wire will the bombs be disarmed. Cutting the yellow wire will cause the bombs to instantaneously detonate.
