Sherry Swanson has just been released from prison and is seemingly recovered from the heroin addiction which landed her in there. Trying to rebuild her life and re-connect with a young daughter who no longer calls her 'mommy', the challenges she's facing are much more daunting than she realized and the threat of relapse is constantly present.
Sherrybaby contains examples of:
- Abusive Parents: It's all but outright stated that Sherry was sexually abused by her father.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Sherry's parole officer, who is a hardass with a short temper but is only doing his job and seems genuinely regretful when Sherry relapses.
- Parental Incest: Between Sherry and her father, even if it isn't explicitly shown.
- Womanchild: Sherry lapses into a childlike mindset around her father, and is emotionally stunted in a lot of other ways.
