Seijuu Sentai Gingaman vs. Megaranger is a 1999 direct-to-video movie which depicts a crossover between Seijuu Sentai Gingaman and Denji Sentai Megaranger, part of the annual Super Sentai "Vs. Series".

Months after the Balban's defeat, a new threat comes to Earth in the form of the fearsome Captain Gregory and his personal Demon Beast Gelmadix, even more powerful than Daitanix, and helping him out is Hizumina, the latest creation of the late Dr. Hinelar and remnant of Nezirejia; with both villains plotting to resurrect their factions and take over Earth while destroying the Sentai teams that defeated them. The Gingaman and Megaranger teams must join forces to combat these new threats and save Earth.

This movie contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Back from the Dead: The Balban High Command are brought back from the dead (except for Bucrates and Biznella); as well as some select Majin from Gingaman, thanks to Gregory's ritual.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Just as Captain Gregory has the Gingamen cornered, Kenta arrives as Mega Red and helps them out.
    • Later, Hyuuga and GoTaurus arrive to help the Gingamen and Kenta by driving the resurrected Balban generals, Gregory, and Hizumina away before they could steal the other Ginga Braces.
  • Breaking Old Trends: This crossover takes place after both Megaranger and Gingaman's series finale, unlike any other Super Sentai crossover film before or after save for JAKQ vs Goranger.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Yuusaku Hayakawa/Mega Silver once again neither appears nor is even mentioned in this special like Megaranger vs. Carranger. What makes this even more weird is that Hyuuga/Black Knight, Gingaman's 6th ranger, appears alongside the main team to assist against Balban. Why does Hyuuga appear but not Yuusaku as well?
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: As is the norm for Super Sentai; The Rangers demolish most of the Balban with ease despite being outnumbered 27 to 11, half of the Rangers never fought the Balban before, and each member of the Balban managing to give the Rangers significant trouble. The Gingaman defeat all 6 of the original leaders instantly upon calling the Lights of Ginga to finish them off.
  • Continuity Snarl: Not as bad as the first 2 Sentai crossovers, but still - it takes place after the finale of both series, but problems arise on Gingaman's end; the film shows the Beast Attack Rods as present, despite the team having received an upgrade for them in episode 47; additionally, the nature of the Demon Beasts is different than what's presented in the series: After Daitanix was destroyed, the Gingaman discovered that its remains would corrupt the Earth and give rise to a new Demon Beast. When they subsequently defeated this "Earth Demon Beast", they had to completely incinerate it to ensure there wouldn't be a third one. Here, Gelmadix, supposedly of the same kind, is just blown up into chunks by the standard mecha finishers without any mention of those consequences.
  • Crossover: Between Gingaman and Megaranger.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The battle against the resurrected Balban Majin is very one-sided in the heroes' favor, owing it up to both teams being experienced enough from their battles and their teamwork making short work of the opposition.
  • Expy: Hizumina and Gelmadix are recolors of older characters. Hizumina is especially so because she is basically the same character as Shibonela as not only does she have the same outfit, voice, and actress, but also has her memories.
  • In the Name of the Moon: For the Vs. movie, both teams give their roll call in succession. In this case, the previous team (Megaranger) goes first, followed by the current team (Gingaman).
    Kenta: "MegaRed!"
    Kouichiro: "MegaBlack!"
    Shun: "MegaBlue!"
    Chisato: "MegaYellow!"
    Miku: "MegaPink!"
    Megarangers: "Denji Sentai... Megaranger!"
    Ryouma: "Ginga Red: Ryouma!"
    Hayate: "Ginga Green: Hayate!"
    Gouki: "Ginga Blue: Gouki!"
    Hikaru: "Ginga Yellow: Hikaru!"
    Saya: "Ginga Pink: Saya!"
    Hyuuga: "Black Knight: Hyuuga!"
Ryouma: "The legendary blade that slices through the galaxy! Seijuu Sentai..."
    Gingamen: "Gingaman!"
  • Killed Off for Real: Ginga Rhinos and Ginga Phoenix die in their fight against the new Demon Beast Gelmadix.
  • Mistaken Identity: Kenta initially mistakes Hizumina as Shibonela, but that can be excused because of their similar design.
  • Post-Script Season: This is the only movie that takes place after the main series (Gingaman) concluded. The rest of the movies, with the exceptions of JAKQ vs Goranger and Zenkaiger vs. Kiramager, are all mid-season.
  • Putting the Band Back Together: Following the events of Megaranger, the team went their separate ways and either went to college or did volunteer work overseas. Kenta is the first of the group to meet the Gingamen and the closest of his team he could find on short notice is Chisato. The rest of the team arrives at the halfway point to make the Megarangers a full team of five once more.
  • The Reveal: While never seen in the finale of Megaranger, it is confirmed in a flashback that Bibidebi did die after using the last of his strength to teleport Hizumina into space.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Like Captain Zahab and the Balban Army, Captain Gregory was also sealed off for three thousand years. He was only reawakened when he crashed into Hizumina.
  • Some Kind Of Forcefield: Per Hizumina's suggestion, Captain Gregory creates a forcefield around the Earth to keep the main five Starbeasts from interfering with Gelmadix. It also blocks the INET satellites from tracking Gregory.
  • Sole Survivor: Hizumina, Hinelar's last creation and successor to the deceased Shibolena, who survived the destruction of the Grand Neziros when Bibidibi used the last of his strength to teleport her away to safety. She even vows to get revenge for the death of her creator Dr. Hinelar. She loses this status midway through the film when she is killed by Mega Red.
  • Taking You with Me: Hizumina's last attempt to kill Mega Red is to fall on him as she begins to explode after receiving a fatal stab wound. She dies and fails to kill him but awakens Gelmadix in turn.
  • Time Skip: While not clear how long it has been since the events of the finale, it is enough time for the Gingamen and Hyuuga to readjust to living back in the Ginga Forest.
  • Versus Title: Like with all team-up movies, unlike most examples, this movie doesn't actually have any fights (forced or otherwise) between the teams, and they work together from the start without any issues.
