Go To

Seeta aur Geeta ("Seeta and Geeta") is a 1972 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film starring Hema Malini. The story is about identical twins (played by Hema Malini) who are separated at birth and grow up with different temperaments, eventually switching places.

This film provides examples of:

  • Ambiguous Ending: The two sisters reunite and get married. Exactly who the sisters married is a bit tricky...
  • Fairy Tale Motifs:
    • Seeta eventually loses her parents and is treated like a servant by her relatives despite being the rightful owner of the house, just like Cinderella. Her grandmother lampshades this by saying she'll one day be saved by a prince on a white horse.
    • Geeta is stolen from her real parents by the midwife/witch and raised ignorant of her true origin like Rapunzel.
  • Financial Abuse: The aunt benefits from the estate until Seeta gets married. When the bank manager takes note that she hasn't even tried to arrange a marriage for Seeta, she tries to get the intended spouse to choose her daughter Sheila instead.
  • Gender Flip: Of the earlier film, Ramudu Bheemudu.
  • Identical Stranger: Justified. The two girls are long-lost twins.
  • Prince and Pauper: Played with in that the "princess" is treated like a servant and the "pauper" is actually an heiress, being the long-lost sister of the "princess."
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Seeta and Geeta, respectively.
