You've never been STALKED like this...

Scarecrow is a 2002 American Slasher Movie from The Asylum.

Lester Dwervick is a small-town outcast, constantly tormented by bullies. When he meets a girl who actually treats him decently, he falls in love with her, only to have his heart broken when he sees her kissing another guy. Soon after, he gets in an argument with his mom's drunkard boyfriend, who suffocates him to death and makes it look like a suicide. Lester's Vengeful Ghost possesses a nearby scarecrow and goes about slaughtering all his tormentors one by one...

The film was followed by two sequels, 2003's Scarecrow Slayer and 2004's Scarecrow Gone Wild, but is wholly unrelated to the American or Soviet films of the same name.

This film contains examples of:

  • Alcoholic Parent: Lester's mom is such an alcoholic that he has to regularly stop their trailer from being burned down when she falls asleep with a lit cigarette.
  • Alpha Bitch: Stephanie flat admits that she only picked Lester as a science partner for the easy A, and rips a drawing he made for her to pieces in front of him.
  • Apathetic Teacher: Mrs. Melton, a complete Jerkass who openly berates her students in front of the class and flat admits she doesn't care about them when she isn't being paid to. Meanwhile, she actively calls her students stupid and brain-damaged when she's grading their papers.
  • Big Bad: Chad causes all the bloodshed in the film by being Lester's primary tormentor.
  • Date Rape: Chad's first reaction when he doesn't recognize Judy is to ask if he got her drunk and date raped her.
  • Date Rape Averted: Lester finds a guy sexually harassing a girl he's on a date with and impales him with a pitchfork.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Lester is tormented by the whole of Emerald Grove all his life, until he's murdered and possesses a scarecrow to slaughter them all.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Lester's bullies taunt him with the nickname "Scarecrow."
  • The End... Or Is It?: The scarecrow is seemingly burned to ash, taking Lester's spirit with it, but then he shows up in the framing story and kills the guys telling it.
  • Framing Device: The events of the film are a story told by a guy to his friends while they smoke weed in a cornfield. At the end Lester shows up and kills them.
  • Greater-Scope Villain:It's implied that Lester's rampage was caused by an evil force that sleeps beneath the cornfields.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Lester kills Chad by stabbing him in the head with a corn cob.
  • Jerk Jock: Chad regularly bullies Lester and flat admits to being a serial date rapist. He also uses the standard bully Freudian Excuse of poor self-esteem as a pickup line.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: Lester's killer hangs his body with a rope to make it look like a suicide.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Two boys find one of Lester's victims in a cornfield, and decide it's the coolest thing they've ever seen.
  • One-Word Title
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: These were tormented in life and return to avenge their abusers by possessing inanimate objects. When possessing said objects, they are significantly more acrobatic than in life, and immune to any damage that doesn't completely destroy their vessel.
  • Protagonist Title
  • Scary Scarecrows: Lester possesses a scarecrow to avenge his torment in life.
  • Vomiting Cop: After a couple of kids find one of Lester's victims, the sheriff's deputy decides to talk to them in an attempt to avert this. When the boys talk about how cool finding the body was, he loses his lunch anyways.
