Romulus, my father is a 2007 Australian film starring Kodi Smit-McPhee and Eric Bana.
Bana plays Romulus, a Romanian immigrant to Australia, as he struggles to raise his young son Raimond while struggling to endure his disintegrating marriage with his unfaithful wife Christina.
This Film contains examples of:
- Axe-Crazy: Almost literally in one scene. Romulus has a psychotic break and nearly hits his own son with an axe. This horrifys him so much that he immediately drives himself to a mental hospital.
- Domestic Abuse: Christina suffers this at the hands of second husband Mitrus, its first shown to the audience when she shows up to Raimonds birthday with a bruised eye and later he's shown beating her.
- Despair Event Horizon: Christina crosses it when she realises that her beloved son doesn't want to see her anymore leading to her comitting suicide.
- Money Dumb: Christina is terrible with money and prone to impulsive and expensive purchases. At one point spending her families money that was budgeted for food and rent on a dress for herself.
- Manchild: Christina, shes rather immature, attention seeking, and seems genuinely incapable of coping with any responsibility, to the point she expects her 9 year old son to take care of her infant daughter for her. Best exemplified when she petuantly screams " I hate it here so much!" like a bratty teenager when Romulus friend Hora gets into an argument with her regarding her refusal to take care of Raimond.
