After a virus which wiped out adults, the minors in the town of Potter's Bluff were left alone to fend for themselves. Two teen gangs quickly took control of the town, the Titans and the Eastsiders. In the latter are punk lesbian couple Nat and Scratch. The Titans are brutal jocks led by Jeremy who hoard most resources, the Eastsiders are a more eclectic, poor and loosely organized group. When Nat's brother Jack is caught robbing the Titans, she and Scratch are determined to get him back, but it means going into great danger. The film title is almost certainly referencing Riot Grrrl punk music, given the two protagonists (and Queercore, as they're lesbians).
Tropes:
- Action Girl: Nat and especially Scratch are, like the title implies, girls very capable of kicking ass with whatever they can get their hands on.
- After the End: Ever since a plague wiped the adults out, the kids are fighting each other over what's left.
- Apocalypse Anarchy: With society's collapse, all that's left in a small town is a bunch of teenagers struggling for survival. One group of them are rich jocks who've become brutal overlords, the others poor scavengers.
- Apocalypse How/Class 0: Due to a viral pandemic, all the adults were killed, with society having collapsed at least in the area where the film's set. Only the town is mentioned, so we don't learn of how far this extended.
- The Apunkalypse: Many of the teens left are punks, or have similar styles. However, they're the protagonists, while the more "clean cut" jocks the Titans are the villains.
- Attempted Rape: Nat is nearly raped by a Titan at their toll booth, but Scratch rescues her, gunning down him and the two others nearby.
- Battle Couple: Nat and Scratch are a lesbian couple who fight together all throughout the movie.
- Boyish Short Hair: Punk girl Scratch sports a mohawk, and she's a butch lesbian too.
- Butch Lesbian: Scratch is a lesbian punk who wears a leather jacket (with epaulets), she sports a mohawk and gets described as giving "zero fucks", with an aggressive, tough attitude. However, in truth she does have a soft side, especially toward her girlfriend Nat.
- Delinquent Hair: Scratch is a tough punk girl with a mohawk who gets into all sorts of fights. However, it's nearly always for survival, while the villains are the clean-cut jocks which her group fights.
- Distressed Dude: Jack gets captured by Titans. His sister Nat and Scratch, her girlfriend, have to go rescue him.
- Hand Cannon: Scratch gets ahold of a huge handgun, gunning down several Titans with it.
- I Have Your Wife: The Titans repeatedly use threats against people's abducted loved ones to get what they want.
- Incompatible Orientation: After Nat and Scratch fight, which causes a rift, Sony appears to sense an opportunity. He kisses Nat, who instantly pulls back, telling him she's not into boys.
- Jerk Jock: A group of jocks called the Titans have turned into a criminal gang who try to control the town after the adults died of a plague.
- Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Scratch and Nat are both punk girls, with differing styles/personalities despite that. The first is a mohawk-wearing, aggressive butch lesbian, while Nat has a slightly more femme look (e.g. her long hair) and milder personality.
- Only Fatal to Adults: The pandemic only killed adults, leaving everyone else.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Nat is presumably Natalie, or maybe Natasha, though we never hear anything else. Scratch, Fish and many more are also only called by what're presumably nicknames too.
- Queer Romance: Nat and Scratch's romance is pretty central to the story.
- The Plague: This is what adults died from, a wasting disease beginning as a black stomach rot that slowly killed them.
- Riot Grrrl: The title's an obvious reference to this, and the titular duo are a punk lesbian couple, standing up for themselves against Jerk Jock enemies throughout the film.
- Slashed Throat: Poor Fish is killed this way by a Titan.
- Teenage Wasteland: Due to all adults dying in a plague, teenagers run everything, and fight each other over what's left.
- Teens Are Monsters: The Titans are brutal teenage thugs committing murder and very obviously willing to rape too. Even those on the "good" side are pretty ruthless to survive, like Jack and Scratch.
- Tomboyish Name: Scratch, a butch lesbian punk girl. It's not said what name she had before.
- Ungrateful Bastard: Nat is upset that Scratch killed to protect her from rape, and asks if it was really necessary. Scratch is incredulous, and they briefly fall out over this. Nat later apologizes and they make up though.
- Violently Protective Girlfriend: Scratch shoots three boys to protect her girlfriend Nat with no hesitation.
- Would Hit a Girl: The Titans show no compunctions about hitting the girls.
- Would Hurt a Child: Fish, a pre-teen boy, gets killed by a Titan even after Caine did exactly what the guy wanted.
