P-51 Dragon Fighter is a 2014 American Fantasy War Movie.

It's World War II, and the Allies are pushing Germany out of North Africa. The Nazis are desperate, until one of them finds well-preserved eggs from a race of ancient dragons. The monsters ravage their masters' enemies, but the Allies have found a way to regroup. Soon, an elite fighter pilot unit, made up of ace pilots flying the titular P-51 Mustang, takes to the skies to end the draconic menace.

Not to be confused with the 2003 Syfy movie Dragon Fighter starring Dean Cain.

This film contains examples of:

  • Airstrike Impossible: The plan to destroy Grudrun's dragon breeding facility involves dropping a bomb down the facility's sole ventilation chute, which will be opened by Rommel's "inside man".
  • Big Bad: Dr. Heinrich Grudun, a Nazi occultist setting dragons upon the Allies.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Erwin Rommel, of all people, becomes this when it's made clear that Dr. Heinrich Grudun is the true master of the Dragon Korps. He eventually betrays Grudun and aids the heroes in secret.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Asazuka and Grudrun are defeated, but most of the squadron sacrificed themselves to hold off the dragon horde. It's also implied that the the war will continue with conventional warfare now that the dragons are defeated.
  • Final Boss: Grudun summons the apocalyptic Asazuka the Destroyer at the very end of the film, leading to the climactic battle.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Asazuka the Destroyer, the one male amongst the dragons, who regularly reincarnates and goes on civilization-destroying rampages. Like the other dragons, he's basically a wild animal, and only appears for a brief final battle before being killed.
  • Ghostapo: The main antagonists are a Nazi unit who have awakened ancient dragons.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Nazis serve Adolf Hitler, naturally, but he never really shows up.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: Aside from the standard increase in honour, Erwin Rommel actively allies with the Allies when he decides the Dragon Korps are too dangerous.
  • Historical Rap Sheet: Asuzaka the Destroyer, an especially powerful dragon, is said to have destroyed both Carthage and Rome.
  • Herr Doktor: Dr. Heinrich Grudun, an occultist managing the dragon project for Rommel.
  • In My Language, That Sounds Like...: A Czech pilot says "ano," meaning "yes," to his CO, but one of his squadmates is briefly offended because it sounds nearly identical to the English "no."
  • Kick the Dog: Grudun setting a dragon on one of his own men to show off its capabilities. The guy only lives because Rommel orders the demonstration halted.
  • My Greatest Failure: Robbins quit flying before the film because he accidentally bombed an area with women and children.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: These are usually female and reproduce by parthenogenesis. The exception is Asuzaka the Destroyer, an especially powerful male who destroys civilizations.
  • The Sociopath: Dr. Heinrich Grudun, a Nazi occultist who intends to wipe the Allies off the face of the Earth with his army of dragons, sets a dragon on one of his men as a test run, and decides to summon an apocalyptically powerful dragon to spite the heroes when he's defeated.
  • Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum: Grudun summons Asazuka to take the entire world with him when he realizes the Allies are gonna kill him. The first thing the Destroyer does is burn him alive.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The Nazis finding a dragon egg.
  • Weird Historical War: Nazis with dragons vs. Allies.
  • Wicked Witch: Grudun has a coven of witches controlling the dragons.
