"Miranda's Victim" is a 2023 movie starring Abigail Breslin. The film follows Patricia "Trish" Weir, an 18-year old girl in 1963, who is kidnapped and raped by a man named Ernie Miranda, and chronicles the creation of the Miranda rights.

  • The '60s: The film takes place in the 60s, and follows some of the same virtues of the time: Trish's family is at first afraid to go to the police because she won't be believed, and many girls in her position refuse to admit they were raped, out of fear of seeming like "damaged goods."
  • Blatant Lies: Ernie Miranda testifies that what he and Trish had was wholly consensual, and keeps insisting to his lawyer that the police threatened him into confessing.
  • Consummation Counterfeit: On Trish's wedding day, her mother sharpens one of her nails, and tells her to prick herself during her wedding night, in case her husband decides to check.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While a Female Misogynist, Trish's mother is proven to have a point in warning her daughter that her husband will not take the fact she wasn't a virgin lightly; years later, when he finds out Trish was raped, he outright says that if he'd known that, he wouldn't have married her.
  • Jerkass Realization: Flynn after he sees that his outburst at court hurt Trish.
  • Nothing Personal: Moore tries to get Flynn to forego defending Miranda, but Flynn doesn't care what Miranda did, or if he's even guilty; it's just a job to him, and who would be stupid enough to give up an opportunity to go before the Supreme Court?
  • Rape as Drama: Trish is raped on her way home from work, and the movie follows her struggles.
  • Simple Country Lawyer: Miranda's ACLU lawyer, Flynn, is this. He often uses comedy to get the jury on his side.
  • Standard '50s Father: Trish's husband Charles can be controlling at times, is disappointed when Trish gives birth to a girl and when he thinks Trish was cheating on him, he roughly grabs her. The epilogue states that he and Trish divorced in the 1980s.
  • Straw Misogynist: Charles can be verbally abusive around Trish, and after he finds out she was raped, he worries what this would mean for their family's reputation. He only changes his mind when the detectives show him a list of Miranda's victims, and tell him that Trish was the only one willing to speak up.
