Love on a Pillow (French title: Le Repos du Guerrier, meaning The Warrior's Rest) is a 1962 French romantic melodrama film directed by Roger Vadim.

While traveling to collect an inheritance, Geneviève Le Theil (Brigitte Bardot) opens the wrong hotel room and finds its occupant, Renaud Sarti (Robert Hossein) in the middle of killing himself. He is brought to a hospital and survives, then proceeds to seduce his rescuer into letting him live with her in her Paris apartment. The bourgeois Geneviève can't help but be drawn to him and his bohemian lifestyle, even if their relationship is a destructive one.

Tropes:

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Renaud is a brooding, rude, nihilistic bohemian who scoffs at social convention and is also an asshole to Geneviève, who wants him like she's never wanted anybody before, including her fiance.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Renaud desperately shouts his love for Geneviève in the end, after having driven her away by cheating on her.
  • Disposable Fiancé: Geneviève is engaged to the conventional Pierre at the start of the story. After brooding Renaud comes into her life, she dumps Pierre.
  • Dramatic Wind: The film ends with Renaud shouting his declarations of love and marriage proposal to Geneviève while a strong wind is whipping their hair and clothes around them.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Geneviève meets Renaud when she finds him dying in a hotel room and alerts the hotel staff so he can be taken to a hospital.
  • Uptown Girl: The romance is between Geneviève, a wealthy heiress, and Renaud, a penniless vagrant/philosopher.
