Life or Something Like It is a 2002 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Herek.

Lanie Kerrigan (Angelina Jolie) is a successful reporter for a Seattle television station, who interviews a beggar and self-proclaimed prophet, Jack (Tony Shalhoub), to find out if he really can predict football scores. However, Prophet Jack not only predicts the football score (and that it will hail the next day), but also that Lanie will die in seven days. When his first two prophecies come true (plus a third one about a significant earthquake in San Francisco), Lanie is convinced that she is going to die and is forced to reevaluate her life. Lanie tries to find consolation in her famous baseball player boyfriend and in her family, but there is little there, but ends up finding support in an unlikely source: her cameraman, Pete Scanlon (Edward Burns), who helps her in her quest to find meaning in her life.

This film features examples of:

  • Hair of the Dog: Lanie is offered this the morning after having presented a news report blind drunk.
  • Metaphorically True: Prophet Jack's prophecy only said that Lanie would die — he never said that Lanie couldn't be revived shortly after.
  • Prophecy Twist: Prophet Jack's prophecy does come true — Lanie dies from an errant gunshot. However, she is revived on the operating table.
  • Rom Com Job: She works for TV (as a news reporter), he works for TV (as a cameraman).
