La Ventana (The Window) is a 2008 Argentinian/Spanish drama film directed by Carlos Sorín.

Don Antonio is an elderly man who owns the San Juan farm estate in the Patagonian countryside. Despite having suffered a heart attack recently, he plans to host his estranged son Pablo soon. As his servants go about tending to him and the house, he decides to sneak out and take a walk in The Pampas.

Tropes include:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The toy soldiers that Alberto pulls from behind the piano strings near the beginning. Pablo sees them placed on top of the piano near the end and decides to put them in his coat pocket, indicating that they have sentimental value to him and that he's not as disdainful of his upbringing there as we have been lead to believe.
  • Good Samaritan: When Antonio passes out on the grass, two young women who were biking through the countryside with their boyfriends come across him and send for help. The boyfriends later help Roberto carry Antonio into the truck.
  • Straw Vegetarian: The servants assume Pablo is one, based on his urbane life in the present, his estrangement from his country-living father, and because allegedly "Europeans don't eat meat". We don't find out if he really is a vegetarian.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Alberto helps Don Antonio tie his shoes when the latter indicates that he wants to take a walk outside, unaware of just how far Antonio planned to go.
