Tropes for the film:

  • Character Title: Johnny Stecchino.
  • Criminal Doppelgänger: Bus driver Dante (Benigni) gets miskten for a look-alike gangster, the titular Johnny Stecchino (also Benigni). In this case, though, Dante is deliberately lured to Johnny's hometown to take the fall for him.
  • Identical Stranger: This trope is one of the plot points.
  • Mirror Routine: Dante and Johnny (Benigni) do a quick mirror routine.
  • Tagline: "Sometimes a banana is just a banana!".
  • Translation Convention: The english subtitles cover the entire movie, including one scene where Dante is trying to convince the hotel staff he's an American tourist by speaking in broken English.
