  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Popoy may come across as a bumbling fool, but he has his moments when he outdraws Supt. Punongbayan when he saw him drawing a gun from his holster, manages to run from a hail of bullets from Antonio's Mooks, and outwits Antonio by using himself as bait to have both Jack and Emily shoot him.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Jack lost his mother when she was shot by Antonio's men when he tried to killed Popoy in their house which leads to Popoy's imprisonment because Antonio framed him for robbery. He later became a beggar but soon adopted by Nanding, Otep, and Binoy.

Punongbayan, the Montenegros' police protector, was killed by Popoy, Andrea fell from the container van when she tried to shoot Emily, Andrew also got fell and Impaled with Extreme Prejudice after a brutal fight with Jack, and Antonio was killed by the 3 people whose lives he screwed up in a factory where he killed Popoy's partner who is also Emily's real father.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Antonio Mondragon can kill anyone who discovers his drug operation but he didn't resort to kill his own wife when she tells him that she will go to the US along with their youngest son. Though, this also a Played With example because he can kill his wife and sepatate her and Angelo if she tells the authorities about their illegal drug trade.

  • Mole in Charge: Supt. Punongbayan, the three protagonists' Da Chief, is revealed to be working alongside the Montenegros when he held Popoy at gunpoint.
  • The Reveal:
    • Jack is Popoy's long lost son and Emily is the daughter of Popoy's dead former partner.
    • Supt. Punongbayan is working alongside the Montenegros.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After she gets sick of her older children dealing their father's illicit business, Valerie and her son Angelo opted to get out of the country. They are also the final members of the Monenegro family that survived throughout the film.
  • Tsundere: Emily is Type A towards Jack.
  • Wham Shot: Someone is calling Popoy at the Montenegros' hideout in the climax. That someone is revealed to be Supt. Punongbayan.
