A 1958 American World War II film directed by Philip Dunne, which follows three Marines as their personal lives are affected by their experiences in war and their families also being affected.

The film stars Robert Wagner, Dana Wynter, Jeffrey Hunter, Hope Lange, Bradford Dillman, Sheree North, France Nuyen, and Mort Sahl.

It was released on October 31, 1958.

Tropes for the film:

  • The '40s: Takes place in 1944 during World War II.
  • The Film of the Book: Based on The Big war by Anton Myrer.
  • Tagline: "THE ONE TRULY GREAT STORY OF THE US MARINES!".
  • Wartime Wedding: The movie follows three marines, first on leave, then in battle. One, Nico, uses hie leave to propose to and marry his pregnant girlfriend. It isn't a Shotgun Wedding; they're genuinely in love and no one is making them. Perhaps predictably, he's the one of the three who doesn't survive.
