House Party is a 2023 comedy film and legacy sequel/reboot of the 1990 film of the same name. It stars Tosin Cole, Jacob Latimore, Karen Obilom, D.C. Young Fly, and Scott Mescudi, and is directed by Calmatic.

The plot follows two friends, recently fired from their cleaning jobs, who decide to throw a party in the home of their last client, LeBron James (who also produces), in order to make the money one of them needs to support his daughter. Originally set for an HBO Max release, the film was released in theaters in the United States on January 13, 2023.

Previews: Red Band Trailer

House Party includes examples of:

  • Big Fancy House: The trailer really shows off James' huge mansion where the duo decides to host their party. The place boasts huge rooms and expensive, confidence-boosting holograms.
  • Continuity Cameo: Kid 'N Play, reprise their roles from the original '90s trilogy and the 2013 installment House Party: Tonight's the Night. Fittingly, a quick glimpse of them appears in the trailer immediately after the two new heroes perform their signature "kick step" dance. Unfortunately, that same glimpse is their only screentime in the film proper as they do not have any speaking lines.
  • Hologram: As shown in the trailer, LeBron has a hologram of himself that gives him reassurances about his team changes and his hairline.
  • Laid-Back Koala: A Koala is shown in the trailer getting high with other party goers.
  • Logo Joke: The WB logo transitions into the 1987-1994 New Line Cinema logo.
  • Shout-Out: After Kevin and Damon replace LeBron's championship ring, their walk back into the party mimics the opening scene of Belly (1998), complete with "Back to Life" playing and the guys' eyes glowing the same as Nas and DMX.
