  • Drama Club: Honor joins the club to convince them to perform Kennedy’s play, hoping that Kennedy will get so invested in the production that her grades will slip and improve Honor’s chances of getting a recommendation letter to Harvard.
  • Elite School Means Elite Brain: The high-achieving Honor is dead set on getting into Harvard.
  • Mistaken for Racist: Travis is nervous to come out to his father and believes that he won’t accept his sexuality or desire to be in the drama club. When he does come out to him, Coach Biggins barely reacts to the revelation that his son is gay. The real reason his father seems upset with him and keeps interrupting his play rehearsals is because Travis keeps showing up late for lacrosse practice.
  • School Play: The drama club performs Kennedy’s musical depicting the life of Queen Mary I ‘Bloody Mary’ of England and Ireland.
  • Transparent Closet: When Travis comes out as gay to his father, he responds to this news by saying that he’s known his son was gay since he was 5. Coach Biggins also calls Christine, Travis’s ex-girlfriend, an idiot for not realizing this while the two were dating.
  • Using You All Along: Honor initially believes Michael to be a foster kid who could only afford college by getting a scholarship. She purposely sabotages her own chances at getting a recommendation letter from Mr. Calvin. It later turns out that Michael is quite wealthy and planned all along to get Honor to fall for him and give up her chance at the recommendation letter.
