Heimat/Heimat 2/Heimat 3 was a German tv film series about the Simon Family, from 1919 through to 2000.

Tropes in Heimat

  • Bomb Disposal: Otto dies. Also Retirony given how he and Pieritz are just talking about their future.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Averted. At the start of Ansgar's Death, we're told he died young. Throughout the episode we see people variously mishandling a gun they have. Ansgar dies from getting his leg caught in a tram door as it starts moving.
  • Death in the Limelight: Episode 8 begins with Martina and Rudolf Pollack - minor characters who die in Berlin at the end of the war.
  • Decoy Protagonist: The first episode gives the impression that Paul is the main character. He disappears at the end of the first episode, and the main character of the first series is in actual fact Maria. Glasisch, who is born at the same time as Maria, also Counts here, dying soon after her.
  • Greek Chorus: Glasisch, who hardly does anything but comment on the other characters and their actions in the first series. He is also The Narrator, keeping the Viewers up to speed at the beginning of each episode.
  • Karma Houdini: Though hardly a villain, Lotti doesn't face any consequences for her behaviour with Hermann, while Klarchen is threatened with criminal charges.
  • Killed Offscreen: With the way the show jumps through time this happens for a lot of characters, but perhaps the most glaring offscreen death is Horst, Eduard and Lucie's son, who is killed by an undetonated bomb presumably in the middle of the action of Episode 8.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Paul, who walks out on his family and doesn't contact them for twelve years.
