Goof on the Roof is the 152nd short subject starring American slapstick comedy team The Three Stooges, released December 3, 1953. In it the Stooges receive news that their roommate and pal Bill (Frank Mitchell) is getting married. They will soon be moving out of the house so that Bill's new lover can move in. As a favor of gratitude, the Stooges decide to install Bill's brand new television antenna. The project goes into chaos, however, when they eventually destroy the home. When Bill's new wife comes home to see the mess, all hell breaks loose, and Bill is single as quickly as he had gotten married. In a fit of anger, Bill takes out his aggression on his roommates, shooting them all (them being the Three Stooges, they survive with only smoldered rear ends).

Tropes used:

  • D.I.Y. Disaster: Only the stooges could screw up installing a television this badly.
  • Doom It Yourself: The whole premise of the short.
  • The Door Slams You: The stooges have just about every accident you can have with a dutch door.
  • Hard Head: Larry gets hit in the head with bricks falling from the roof, suffering only minor pain.
  • Harmless Electrocution: Moe sticks a fork into an electrical socket and gets electrocuted. In a vain attempt to help, Larry pours water on Moe (this of course, only makes things worse). Larry eventually rescues Moe by wrapping a curtain around him and pulling away, but they bump heads and slump over. However, there are no lasting effects from these injuries.
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: Bill and his newlywed wife. She carries him over the threshold of the house instead of the usual vice versa.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Set up but then averted; the cheese in Moe’s sandwich gets replaced with a bar of soap that Shemp tosses aside, but Moe eats it without ever knowing the difference.
  • In One Ear, Out The Other: Larry angrily throws a feather duster at Shemp, and it goes through one ear and out the other.
  • Never My Fault: After seeing Larry try to peer inside a hole in the wall with a match, Moe takes the match away and lectures Larry on how playing with matches is dangerous. While he does this he tosses the match into the hole, starting a fire himself, and blames Larry for it.
  • Running Gag: Someone (usually Shemp) ending up with a bucket of water on their heads. When it finally happens to Larry, Shemp wonders if he's having an out-of-body experience.
  • Shot in the Ass: All three stooges at the end of the short.
