Tropes

  • Behemoth Battle: As a Kaiju film this is a given.
  • Call-Back: As a Shout-Out to the bizarre and psychedelic sequences from the 1971 film, the opening and closing credits include some surreal and trippy imagery/music.
  • Eye Scream: Much like the 1971 original, Godzilla suffers an injury to one of his eyes during his battle with Hedorah.
  • Kaiju: The Kaiju featured in the short film are Godzilla and Hedorah.
  • Mighty Roar: Godzilla has his signature roar.
    SKKKRRREEEOOONNNK!!!
  • Minimalist Cast: Aside from a quick shot of some peoples feet as they are running away, Godzilla and Hedorah are the only characters in the film.
  • Recycled Title: Has the same name as the 1971 Film.
  • Riding into the Sunset: Or stomping into the sunset in this case. After defeating Hedorah, Godzilla roars in victory and moves on as the sun begins to set behind him.
  • Showdown at High Noon: An non-western example, when Godzilla roars and gets Hedorah’s attention, the two monsters have a brief standoff before battling.
