4:44 Last Day on Earth is a 2011 Apocalyptic Drama directed by Abel Ferrara.
It focuses on the relationship between two lovers, Cisco (Willem Dafoe) and Skye (Shanyn Leigh) during the last 24 hours before the end of all life on earth.
Tropes
- Age-Gap Romance: Between Cisco and Skye, although Skye’s age isn’t made clear. At one point, Cisco’s ex berates him for “running away with a teenager”, but it’s unknown how true the claim is.
- Driven to Suicide: Cisco watches a man climb on to his balcony and jump. Cisco later climbs on his own balcony and yells at some citizens looking at the man’s body. He attempts to coax Skye to jump off with him, but she instead makes him come off the balcony.
- End of the World as We Know It: The couple wait for the end of the world which is predicted to happen at at 4:44a.m. the next morning.
- Fade to White: The film ends with Skye and Cisco holding each other and Skye speaks to Cisco while the screen slowly fades to white.
