Facing total ruin the insurance executive commits suicide never knowing he was the janitor's target. Satisfied, Hobbs allows the stolen diamonds to be recovered and disappears never to be found.

She then realizes that Mr. Hobbs had probably discharged the stolen diamonds into a sink, therefore the diamonds must be in the sewer.
