A 1992 American action adventure comedy directed by Charles Martin Smith has two mercenaries (Peter Weller and Robert Hays) meeting each other after being assigned to overthrow a South East Asian director by the CIA.

The movie also stars Smith, Lim Kay Tong, Ramona Rahman, Dom Magwili, and Azmil Mustapha.

Not be confused by 50/50 (2011), staring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Tropes for the film:

  • Big Bad: General Bosavi.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Sam and Jake during the final battle.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: The final battle has Sam and Jake in a situation similar to Butch and Sundance and they discuss how suicidal it is that the only options are stay and get shot, or charge at the enemy and get shot. They charge, with some timely distraction from the populace rioting at the gates. They get shot a few more times, but they win.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The cast, but especially Sam and especially Jake.
  • The Lancer: Sam French is the Lancer to Hero Jake Wyer.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: Sam kills Bosavi this way, after firing a grenade against him.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Jake and Sam. They change their minds.
  • Pin-Pulling Teeth: Lampshaded and defied. Jake and Sam are getting ready to go up against a large group of soldiers that have them pinned down, and plan to begin their counter-assault with a barrage of grenades. Jake takes a grenade in each hand and pulls pins with his fingers. Sam had earlier been shot in the shoulder and held a grenade in his one good arm, attempting this trope. It doesn't work.
Sam: (winces) OW! I damn near chipped a tooth! (to Jake) Here, pull this for me.
Jake: (rolls his eyes and pulls the pin on Sam's grenade)
  • Private Military Contractors: Jake Wyer and Sam French are both these. Of course, they both come to believe in the cause they are fighting for.
