"It came to bring hope to our war-torn kingdom, but something went wrong and it was banished. In time, people only spoke of it in whispers and the name they gave to it... was "traitor." But our kingdom still needs hope. And sometimes, it takes the most unlikely person to help you find it."
Darius

Dragonheart: Vengeance is a Medieval Fantasy Adventure film by Universal Pictures, released direct-to-video and on Netflix in February 2020. Directed by Ivan Silvestrini and written by Matthew Feitshans, Dragonheart 5 is the sequel to Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire and Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer's Curse, making it the third prequel to Dragonheart and Dragonheart: A New Beginning.

The movie features the ice dragon Siveth, voiced by Helena Bonham Carter, one of the dragons raised by Drago and Gareth, who traveled to Romania to aid the kingdom of Wallachia. King Razvan (Arturo Muselli) banished her for refusing to share her heart with him after he was wounded in battle and has been a recluse for 20 or 30 years. After witnessing marauders (Ross O Hennessy, Richard Ashton, Carolina Carlsson, Tam Williams) kill his family, young farm boy Lukas (Jack Kane) enlists the aid of Siveth and the mercenary Darius (Joseph Millson) in his quest for revenge.

Dragonheart: Vengeance contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Animal Eye Spy: Between Siveth and Darius.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: When Barbarians realize they can't hurt Siveth easily, they choose to attack her eyes.
  • Breath Weapon: In a first for the series, the dragon only breathes ice.
  • Central Theme: Vengeance.
  • Continuity Nod: Once again, a character finds himself in the dragon's jaws. Kudos to Siveth being able to unhinge her jaws like Draco. This film is also the second in the series to feature a dragon breathing ice (although on this occasion, Siveth is apparently only capable of breathing ice where Drake learned how to breathe ice as well as the traditional fire).
  • The Conspiracy: Lukas, Darius, and Siveth soon discover the four raiders terrorizing the countryside and murdering people are acting on King Razvan's orders. He is afraid the food shortages and fear of starvation will cause the people to turn against him and revolt, so he hired the bandits to kill the hungriest people to remain in power. Years before this, the king used agents to give him an excuse to wage the border wars that ravaged the kingdom, wars that didn't need to happen, just so the people would see him as a hero.
  • Dance Party Ending: A brief one at that.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Siveth is the series' first named and voiced female dragon.
  • Doesn't Trust Those Guys: Ever since arriving in the kingdom, Siveth never trusted King Razvan, and it turns out she's right.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The film has the main characters on a quest to avenge the wrongs done to them, and the movie explores the damaging effects that seeking vengeance at any cost can have on people.
  • The Exile: Years before the film's events, Siveth refused to share her heart with the wounded King Razvan. For her act of "betrayal," Siveth was labeled a traitor and forced to become a hermit. From that point on, people stopped using her name and only speak of her in whispers.
  • Family-Unfriendly Violence: Despite its PG-13 rating and being relatively bloodless, a guy has his hand cut off onscreen and another has his arm frozen solid and popping off onscreen.
  • Farm Boy: Lukas.
  • Female Monster Surprise: Siveth is the first female dragon to be seen onscreen, voiced, and one of the main characters in a film.
    Siveth: My name is Siveth.
Lukas: So you're a girl dragon?
  • Harmless Freezing: Averted. Siveth freezes a man's arm in place, but then it breaks off, and he falls to the ground.
  • Lodged-Blade Recycling: After being hit by an arrow in the belly, Darius pulls it out and uses it to kill the Scorpion.
  • Love at First Sight: Lukas is immediately smitten with Oana when he first sees her.
  • Love Interest: Oana to Lukas.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The Bear, Wolf, Snake, and Scorpion are revealed to be working for King Razvan.
  • Nom de Guerre: The ruthless marauders are known by nicknames based on the animal skins they wear: The Bear, The Scorpion, The Snake, and The Wolf.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Siveth is unique among her fellow dragons; she is not only the first female dragon with a proper name but also breathes ice instead of fire.
  • Playing Cyrano: While hiding in the shadows, Siveth whispers to Lukas what to say to Oana, a girl he fancies, to impress her.
  • Series Continuity Error: Siveth is essentially a recolored version of Dragonheart 4 Drago, instead of being based on her mural from the previous film, and the reason for this is unknown.
  • Shapeshifter: Siveth, who can transform into any animal — including horses, dogs, cats, and mice.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Due to sharing Siveth's heart, Darius can understand the language of animals.
  • Tail Slap: Siveth uses this attack tactic often.
  • Thinking Out Loud: Siveth. After spending 30 years in exile with no one else to talk to, it's expected.
  • Vegetarian Carnivore: Siveth admits to swearing off meat a long time ago.
