Donor is a 2018 film from Mongolia directed by Batbayar Chuluunbat.

Orgil is a handsome family man with a wife and a little son, and a job as a bureaucrat with some vaguely defined government agency. One day he and his coworker and friend, the cheerful Tulgaa, go out to a vast trash dump where desperately poor, homeless Mongolians are rooting through the garbage looking for food. Orgil's job is to register them with the government so they can have access to health care and get IDs and job permits.

However, several of the people that Orgil registered soon disappear. A partially burnt ID of one of the vagrants leads the police to Orgil. Orgil discovers, to his shock, that the records of the people he registered have disappeared from the central computer database. He is immediately suspected of malfeasance and fired from his job. Eventually, he is kidnapped by the bad guys, which is when he finds the truth: it's an organ theft ring which is murdering people and harvesting their organs.

Tropes:

  • Abandoned Area: The two goons that are going to murder Orgil take him to an abandoned outdoor concrete structure that appears to have once been some sort of factory.
  • Deus ex Machina: Two mooks have whisked Orgil out of town and taken him to an abandoned factory to kill him. One has a pistol against Orgil's skull when the other gets a call from "Big Brother" saying that Big Brother wants to speak with Orgil. There's no hint of what Big Brother wants to know or indeed who he is, and he never appears, but this is the only reason why the second half of the movie happens.
  • Disposable Vagrant: A Russian organ theft ring is murdering homeless Mongolians and harvesting their organs. The reason that Orgil got ensnared in their plot is that he was making them less disposable, by registering them with the authorities, taking their fingerprints, and getting them ID cards.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After being beaten and kidnapped, after narrowly escaping being murdered and his organs harvested, after managing to get away from the goons in Ulan-Ude, and after making what was apparently a two-day walk cross-country through the snow to the Mongolian border, Orgil makes it home alive and exposes the organ smuggling ring.
  • Fan Disservice: The chiseled, muscular actor playing Orgil appearing in the nude—as he wakes up on a dissection table minutes before his organs are to be harvested, and then flees in terror, looking for clothes anywhere before the doctors come back to kill him.
  • Flashback: A few flashbacks to Tulgaa's look of unease when he saw the documents of the people Orgil registered, and a scene in the office where Tulgaa picked up the documents, and a comment by Tulgaa about how he had "a plan" to be able to support a wife, as Orgil realizes that his buddy was the one working with the smuggling ring.
  • Headbutt of Love: Orgil does this with a corpse when he wakes up in the operating room and finds Tulgaa's dead body next to him, Tulgaa's organs having been extracted.
  • Impersonating an Officer: Two cops show up at the office and arrest Orgil on suspicion of murdering the Disposable Vagrants—only they aren't cops. They are mooks who take him not to the police station, but to an abandoned factory on the edge of town, where they are about to kill him when a call from "Big Brother" leads them to hold off.
  • Manly Tears: Orgil sheds a Single Tear when he realizes that his friend Tulgaa was the one connected to the criminal ring, and later breaks down sobbing when he sees a border marker and knows that he has made it back to Mongolia.
  • Organ Theft: A Russian crime ring is murdering homeless Mongolians and harvesting their organs.
  • P.O.V. Shot: A couple. One has Orgil wake up blindfolded but able to make out, through the blindfold, the three mooks who are holding him; one injects him with something and the screen goes black again. The second one has Orgil again waking up, this time on an operating table, where he sees some Russian Back Alley Doctors harvesting the organs of a freshly dead person on the table next to him.
  • Spooky Animal Sounds: Orgil spends a scary night in the snowy woods near the border, as wolves howl and one is seen briefly circling around his position.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The first scene shows bad guys chasing a person who has jumped out of a van somewhere in the snowy countryside.
  • "Wanted!" Poster: Orgil escapes from the two mooks only to make it back to his apartment building and find wanted posters with his face plastered everywhere.
