A 1981 Slasher Movie by Wes Craven, starring Maren Jensen, Sharon Stone, Susan Buckner, Ernest Borgnine, and Michael Berryman.
Martha Schmidt loses her husband in a freak accident when he ends up crushed by his own tractor. After the funeral, Martha's friends arrive to comfort her. Meanwhile, the religious sect that lives next to Martha's farmland keeps pestering her and her friends, and more mysterious deaths occur.
This film has examples of:
- Animal Assassin: Somebody puts a snake inside Martha's washing room while she's taking a bath, and it ends up in the tub with her.
- Captain Ersatz: The Hittites are a fictional version of the Amish, which is underlined when they are stated to make the Amish "look like swingers".
- Grave Robbing: Before the big reveal, Martha discovers that someone has dug up her husband's corpse, and has stuffed his coffin with chickens. She later finds it inside the Stohler family's barn.
- Murder the Hypotenuse: Faith, who is actually a hermaphrodite, is obsessed with Martha, and she's been killing people close to her as to weed out any "competition".
- Nightmare Sequence: Lana has a nightmare where someone holds her head (image of which was used for the original poster) and tells her to open her mouth wide. A spider drops in there, and she wakes up in a heavy coughing fit.
- Red Herring: The Hittites have nothing to do with deaths around Lana's farm.
- The Reveal: Lana's neighbours, the Stohlers, are behind her misfortunes; Faith is the one killing people, and her mother Louisa is the one actually trying to end Martha's life.
- Sadly Mythtaken: The neighboring Hittites keep calling any perceived seductive woman outside their community with the demonic term Incubus, which is actually used for male demons.
- Too Dumb to Live: Martha decides to stick around even after the ghost of her husband urges her to leave...
- Scary Scarecrows: Martha is startled when she opens the door to her bedroom and finds out that someone has snuck inside and placed a scarecrow in there.
- Twist Ending: After the whole ordeal is dealt with, an actual Incubus busts through the floor and grabs Martha to drag her to parts unknown.
