Tropes for the film:

  • Alliterative Name: Barnaby Bath.
  • Character Title: Captain Nemo and the Underwater City.
  • City of Gold: The city of Templemere has almost everything made of gold because they get it from refining sea water, and a huge room is full of used gold items, which are basically junk as gold is so plentiful it's valueless.
  • The Film of the Book: Based on Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
  • Sinister Stingrays: The once-peaceful, if abnormally large, stingray under the seas, which mutates into kaiju proportions after being exposed to radiation leakage from an underwater nuclear power plant.
  • Tagline: "They tried to leave the golden city with the most valuable prize of all - their lives!".
  • This Is What the Building Will Look Like: Captain Nemo shows the rest of the main characters that the amazing Steampunk Underwater City that they have been admiring through the whole film is just the first phase of a large compound, with a model to give proper scale (the new city, already starting construction, is approximately twice as big).
  • Underwater City: A group of shipwrecked people encountering Captain Nemo, who has developed several advanced submarines aside from the Nautilus and has created an underwater city, Templemer, for his crewmen and their families.
