Cabrini is a 2024 film directed by Alejandro Monteverde (Sound of Freedom) by Angel Studios, about Frances Xavier Cabrini, the first American citizen to be canonized as a saint. The story follows her arrival in America and her attempts to help the Italian immigrants of New York City in spite of opposition from the mayor, other members of the clergy, and her own failing health.

Cabrini Contains Examples Of:

  • Bilingual Bonus / Genius Bonus - as part of her efforts to convince a famous Sicilian singer to remember his roots and give back to his community, Mother Cabrini has children sing Va Pensiero outside his window. It's a song about longing for one's homeland.

  • Deliberate Values Dissonance - A lot of racial slurs get tossed around, even by politicians hoping to be reelected. Not to mention the sexism.

  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold - Vittoria is the first helpful person Cabrini and her fellow nuns meet in America, and risks her own safety to get them a place to sleep.

  • Stay in the Kitchen - Women were not independent missionaries, as the vatican keeps helpfully reminding Mother Cabrini.

  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior - when Vittoria's former pimp tries to take her back, one of the orphans pulls out a gun and shoots him in the leg.

  • Would Hurt a Child - A few characters get called out for it, particularly Geno the pimp.

  • Wrong Side of the Tracks - Five Points, where "Rats have it better".
