Blue Story is a 2019 British drama written and directed by Rapman. It received a 2020 digital release in the United States.
Two neighborhoods in South London, Peckham and Deptford, are plagued by rival gangs. Caught in the middle of it are best friends Timmy (from Deptford) and Marco (from Peckham). When Marco is attacked by gangsters from Deptford that Timmy knows, it causes a rift between the two friends that will lead to devastating consequences.
This film provides examples of:
- Asshole Victim: Killy indirectly caused the feud between Timmy and Marco, and later sold out Timmy and Madder, so no tears are shed for him when Madder kills him.
- Black and Nerdy: Timmy expresses an interest in Game of Thrones and Star Wars.
- Despair Event Horizon: Timmy's death is what breaks Madder and causes him to quit the gang life.
- Downer Ending: Timmy dies, Marco and Tyrone are sentenced to life in jail, and Switcher commits suicide after his brother is incarcerated, leaving their mother devastated at losing both her sons. The only positive is that Madder retires from the gang life to help others avoid the same fate.
- Driven to Suicide: Switcher overdoses on pills after learning Marco was sent to jail for killing Timmy.
- Greek Chorus: A rapper appears throughout most story transitions to express some characters' feelings or give more background to the situation.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Part of why Killy betrays his mates is because Madder took Timmy under his wing over him.
- Hypocrite: After Timmy stabs Switcher in the back, Switcher berates his brother for not being able to protect him and stressed that they were supposed to have each others backs. Keep in mind that before he got stabbed, he was more concerned with killing Madder than protecting his brother, who was being pummeled by a vengeful Timmy just a few feet away.
- It's Personal: Happens with both Timmy and Marco. For Timmy, it's after Marco causes Leah's death. For Marco, it's after Timmy paralyzes Switcher from the waist down and then tries to kill Marco.
- Kill It with Fire: Marco burns the van that Timmy is locked in, leading him to die from smoke inhalation.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Madder's real name is never mentioned.
- Speed Sex: Marco hooks up with a girl he met on Instagram, and she is disappointed when he finishes too quickly.
- We Used to Be Friends: Timmy and Marco were great friends since childhood until Killy re-entered Timmy's life.
