Black Wake is a Sci-Fi Horror Thriller movie by Jeremiah Kipp.

Mysterious deaths have been happening all along the Atlantic coast, and the government is determined to get to the bottom of it. To that end, a scientist named Dr. Luiza Moreira (Nana Gouvea) has been examining videos of various happenings, and has come to the conclusion that some form of Puppeteer Parasite is behind all of them, a claim that no one is willing to take seriously.

She's also given a book written by a homeless man (Johnny Beauchamp) containing notes and crude drawings pertaining to some kind of creature that just looks like a big mass of tentacles, which further convinces her that her theory is what's happening. As more and more attacks occur, though, the situation just seems to get worse and worse.

The movie was released on August 7th, 2018.

Black Wake contains examples of:

  • Apocalyptic Log: The whole film, in a nutshell.
  • Blooper Reel: Plays during the credits.
  • Boom, Headshot!: When the two naked zombie women attack, they're both killed with a shoot to the forehead.
  • Camera Abuse: In one scene, someone is shot, and we see blood splatter on the camera lens.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Some of the footage is filtered to black and white to pass it off as being filmed by security cameras.
  • Driven to Suicide: In a police interrogation scene, the person being interrogated steals a police officer's gun and trains it on the other... before bringing it up to his own temple, and then shooting himself.
  • Drop Dead Gorgeous: There's the poster above, with an unconscious or dead scantily-clad woman wrapped in tentacles. In the film itself, two busty naked corpses are shown being examined in a morgue when a parasite jumps out of them and into one of the doctors, resulting in chaos until guards outside shoot down the awakened zombie women. A prolonged eroticized view of the blonde one collapsing on her side finishes the scene.
  • Eye Scream: In one scene, when a man has been attacked by parasites, his friend holding the camera rolls him over, and we see a parasite in his eye socket.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Two dead naked women leap out of their body bags and kill Dr. Jones.
  • Found Footage: The movie is presented as a compilation of video logs that tell the events from multiple different perspectives.
  • Handguns: There are a number of these in the movie. In one scene, while being interrogated, a guy grabs a police officer's gun and points it at the other... before turning it on himself and blowing his brains out.
  • Hope Spot: Dr. Moreira is saved from attack by parasites by a guy with a gun who claims he can help. And then he's shot In the Back by agents Miller and Johnson, which kills him.
  • How We Got Here: The movie starts with two government agents trailing Dr. Moreira and deciding on their next course of action before being swarmed by a group of zombies. Then it jumps back six months.
  • Kiss of Death: When The specimen (played by Kelly Rae LeGault) has someone try to force himself on her at a beach, she decides to humour him and give him a kiss. This allows a parasite to jump into his mouth.
  • Male Gaze: In one video log, a guy walking to the beach has his camera trained on his girlfriend's butt. He denies it when she asks about it.
  • Orifice Invasion: In one case, a parasite enters a human host through his mouth.
  • The Reveal: The homeless guy Detective Michaels got the book from is Tommy, Dr. Moreira's real son. Also, the Eldritch Abomination that's been sending out the parasites chose Dr. Moreira as its Messiah when it abducted her seven years ago, and the government knew Dr. Moreira had some sort of connection to it.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Dr. Jones sees his scrub start thrashing about and attack someone, he decides to leave the room.
  • String Theory: In the middle of the movie, when Dr. Moreira is making a video log, there's a series of papers connected by red string on the wall behind her.
  • Tattooed Crook: The male robber in one video log has a lot of tattoos.
